i got my vinson dynoed at a bike run my dealer puts on in the summer time, and they do not give out slips, because there is like 200 people present. and yes my vinson weighs almost 680' though stock is 604. i have a winch bumpers.skid plates. and a when one tire weighs 33.5lbs and the other like 28 do the math..... that is an additional 122lbs. now subtract the stock tires like 10lbs or 15 that add to like 45 or 50lbs. then the tires add around 70lbs. thats how i get my weight smart a$$....

seems like if you own a kq you agree with any kq satements. but yet if a vinson owner comes in the will sound off to the kq's.

it is simple math, power to weight ratio. and surface area.

I just had to respond because of Vinson581's remark
just remember you should'nt ah bought ay polaris
If you had bought a Polaris, particularly a Sportsman 600/700, you would've had the best towing machine made. None of you can outpull my Sp600, let alone any other Sportsman 600 or 700. With the torque of the 600 cc twin (10.3:1 comp) dry weight of 740 (with gas, me at 210 lbs, a brush guard and a warn winch), and ready to ride weight of about 1,050 lbs., this thing is a tow monster. Add in the all wheel drive, yes all 4 wheels, low end torque, and the STOCK Goodyear Rawhides with excellent grip, and it is the next best thing to a tractor. So to any of you KQ and Vinson owners who think your machine is the tow king, your wrong. Just try to hook up to a 600 or 700 from Polaris, if you are brave enough!!

And if you come to my area, let me know, my hitch is already on.

Yeah, the Vinson probably can out pull a KQ.

But with 675 miles on my Sp600, I've never had a belt problem nor a hub problem. The belts and hubs on the twins are stronger and upgraded. Belt has never slipped, not even once, and I go through thick mud and plow lots of snow during the winter.

V,

First check some of my other posts. I routinely correct people on how fast a stock KQ will go. And this is to the low side (it's generally overstated like a lot of things). Also I never said a KQ could outpull you Vinson. My first comment was that in superlow and diff lock it will "pull nice". I also never made any claims such as pulling trucks up hill in the snow, cars sideways, limos, then pulling stumps. I gotta admit you lost me on the stumps completly. Your description of the vehicle pulls made some sense under perfect conditions. Even though the Porshe and it's "steering rack was bad" caused me a bit of head scratching. So you pulled it sideways and then what? Is there a lot of parallel parking on your place or was this downtown? I guess you pulled it out so it could be loaded on a flatbed.

Then I make a long and well thought post about traction, etc. And your only reply is "thats what i was saying". I still don't know what you meant by that.

Then I make a comment on you stump pulling and get no response or details on that one. hmmmm.

I stand corrected on your weight. But you can add some more for 5 gallons of gas and some oil.

Then you comment on how your dealer has a summer deal on dynos and 200 people show up. Although I will say I have never attended an ATV dyno (must have been a mobile dyno to only offer it in the summer) but I have for an auto dyno. It takes a bit of time to set everything up and get started, safty options and all. At least 15 minutes and sometimes 30 to be done. And all the new ones provide a printout of the runs. It's a computerized thingy. So at 15 minutes and an 8 hour day only about 32 of those 200 people would get a run. Dude you must have gotten there early huh. Then you pull out the desparate smart a$$ card. Shame on you. I asked to keep it clean.

And where did you get this formula? "it is simple math, power to weight ratio. and surface area". Power to weight ratios are used to calculate acceleration. The "and surface area" looks like some sort of add on. I don't know of any traction formulas.

And I'm guessing you had a Polaris at one time? You replaced 5-6 belts and 2 hubs on something. You said you were on your original Vinson belt with 1700 miles on it in an earlier.

At least Vinsonman03manual did a pretty good job of explaining his position.

Again....I'm not making all the claims here, simply tring to nail down some of your facts or comments.

And now you went and upset a Polaris owner....attaboy!!

Rob,

He didn't upset me. I just think it's funny how you guys rag on Polaris so much. Polaris has had problems just like every other manufacturer, and they make a heck of a good quad, some of the best sellers mind you.

In fact, there are a whole lot of tech and fix-it questions being asked in these forums about other non-Polaris quads.

And why do you bash Polaris so much? Is it:
A) You've been pulled out by too many to count, and it makes you mad?
B) You can't follow them through the mud, and it makes you mad?
C) You can't keep up with them on the trail, and it makes you mad?
D) You have got beaten by so many, and that makes you mad?
E) You're just an unhappy person and it makes you feel better to bash other people's quads?
F) All the Above

I think probably F

BTW, you don't have a quad listed. Wonder why?

A nice response, thanks.

Actually when I bought my KQ in 1999 I did a LOT of research. I'm basically cheap and poor so I need to buy things that last a long time. I raced YZ's back in the late 70's early 80's and my first bike was a Mini Enduro. I started with Yamaha' and went from there. A Polaris in Katy Texas would let you have a ride on one so I went out there. I was looking a the SP335 at the time. The 500 was out of my price range. While driving around back I noticed a huge pile of old Polaris ATV's. What tha? After looking around I noticed I never saw any older Polaris bikes running around. Plenty of hondas, Suzukis, etc. I was unsure of all the fancy SP335 features. Auto sensing awd, etc. Seemed like a lot of stuff to break down. I was narrowing my search when I happened into one of the several Suzuki dealers around Houston (I actually had an '86 suzuki 185 3 wheeler at the time, bought used) and they were having a huge sale on the quads. I didn't want the LTF250F model because of the smaller tires and no oil cooler. I almost went for the 500 but still was more than I wanted to spend. So it's the KQ and out the door for about $4100 if I recall. Only thing I dread is the lack of power from time to time. I run around the farm, deer lease, etc. I spend a fair amout of time on a black top running around our country place. I'd rather have the air in my face than drive my truck.

I built a web site years ago with KQ mods. I recently posted the site with my multi mount winch I made. Even though the winch pictured was bought on Ebay, a just picked up a second on from Harbor Freight for $49. Same 2000# perm-magnet motor. A cheap-e but I've only been stuck once so I figure why spend $300 for a warn. Plus this one goes on the front or the back. While in the country I use it mostly on the back to pull my little 14' jon boat back on the trailer. Much easier than a hand crank. Check out the site.

A few other folks here provided some info. I still get emails with questions and such on the site. My email is on the web page.
