Default Break in

Just rebuilt my LT230S and I'm wondering how to break it in. I have a service manual but there is no wya I'm doing what it says to do. It tells me to ride it 5-10 hours at 1/3 throttle and do not stay at a constant speed and do not accelerate fast. "Following the first 5-10 hours, more throttle should not be used until the ATV has run for 100 hours" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What!!?
I had it honed, clutch replaced, rings, valves, piston clips (no new piston). So how should I break it in?

There is no way I'm logging 100 hours at 1/3 throttle!

Thanks

i redid my entire engine last winter, crank, etc. i probably went easy the first week or two on it, you could probably tell if you were going too hard on it.i didnt give it a lot of throttle for the first 10 mins or so, but i didnt go ***** out right away either. also i changed my oil right away just to feel better. i hope this somewhat sends you in the right direction.

Break-in is soooooo overated. After warming it up on the stand, shut it down, let it cool and recheck head and base fasteners. Then run the crap out of it. If something isn't fitted properly from the start, no amount of babying it will fix it, it will either stay together or it wont. The only parts that need to "seat" are the rings. No cylinder is perfectly round nor are the rings. High cylinder pressure is needed to force rings into cylinder wall, this is necessary to make the rings conform to the cylinder. The only way to get this is under a load with a fistfull of throttle. If the engine is babied for to long it will just polish off the peaks of the crosshatch and then they will never seat properly. Just make sure it doesni get too hot and make a couple of passes and pull the plug to make sure your jetting is correct. Just my $.02
