timing chain
#1
I have a friend with a z400 that is ticking. I've been reading up on it and most of the sites say it is the timing chain. Can some one please give me a clear set of instructions on how to change it? Also, where is the best place to order a new one? I've seen many debates on master links and non masterlinks-which is more user friendly?

first thing is you should pick up a manual. You might get conflicking information here (not that it would be wrong mind you ). In the maunal it'll show you how to check the tension of the chain and make some adjustments. that's usually the little thing sticking out from the cylinder. this could be all you need.
all the factory chains as I recall don't have a master link, probably a reason for that (no failure point). I guess it could be fed through the bottom and back up the top. Never tried it.
Check out the $30-$50 investment in a manual. The Suzuki ones are always the best.
Good Luck,
Rob
