Default Thinking About Getting a LT250R

Hi everybody. I currently have a 300EX. I really want to sell it since it's too slow. My dream quad is the TRX250R but they are really expensive and I don't have a lot of cash right now. My 300 is not new and I currently can't ride it. I would like to ride at this time because there is nothing else to do in the winter here (don't have a snowmobile)

I was thinking to get a 86 LT for the winter. I found one for sale for 900$. I could probably get it for less. The guy say the engine is still working but would need a top end job. The swingarm is brand new. There are nice RazR tire on it and the guy says there is a lot of others things (I will email him and let you know)

Would it be a good winter quad for that price? I heard the 86 are not that fast? Is it true? Is it still a LOT Faster than my 300? Are they kinda reliable? When they blow up, is it normally only piston/rings job? Thanks

I could ride it until I have enought money for the TRX.

Not a TRX250R, a LT250R. And yes I can find you a running one for that price where I live

Yeah, I got rid of that 230 a long time ago. So you want the Suzuki or Honda?

Alright to answer your question, yes, if you can find an Lt 250r that runs for a decent price defeintly buy it. My brother and I bought a 86 Lt 250r almost a year ago and both of us are very pleased with how well it runs. To be honest in a drag race agianst our Raptor it keeps up really well, so if your looking for something that is faster than a 300ex this quad fits the bill. But if you can find a later year 250r like 87-92 buy one of those because there are more mods for those. Besides the lack of mods for 85-86 250r's that's my only complaint.

I bought mine for a grand and it runs and is all stock. BUT, to make it look new it needs new plastic, strip and paint the frame, new bars, seat cover, and other little things. I think I did pretty well, considering he was stuck on $1300, but it does need work. Its a '90 and I don't regret buying it. I wish I could have got it cheaper but its one of those, what will the market bear type things and had I offered less I know he would have been insulted and simply not sold it. Up here in AK we don't have the selection of sport/racing quads you guys do in the lower 48. Personally, I wish I could have paid $700. But that just wasn't realistic.

Just take your time and look at several Quadracers before you buy. It took me years before I finally bought one. What sucks is every year they get older and older and trying to find one in good shape gets even harder. My personal feeling is that now that the new sport quads are finally being produced, all the guys that held onto the old 2 stroke iron will be selling them to upgrade and a lot of the new owners will be buying based on price and not the machine. Therefore a lot of LT's and 250R's are going to die horrible deaths due to lack of maintence and upkeep. Give it 5 years and we will be cruisig the trailer parks looking for basketcase LT's and 250R's to either restore or use as parts bikes. Its sad

That's sad rockrider

I Should go see the LT this week or next week end. I'm only 15 years old (16 in 2 days ) so I don't have a lot of cash so I need to sell the 300ex first.

If it's in good shape and looks to run good, should I buy the 92 LT for 1500$?

And by the way, are the 92 fast? to which quads does it compare?
