Did everyone see in the January issue of 4 Wheel ATV Action that Suzuki, along with Yamaha, are going to have a new sport machine? Cool. I would imagine Yamaha's will be the YZ400 powered one.

It's the one with the high performance shootout on the front cover, it shouldn't be too hard to find! All they said is it is on it's way for 2001, so no details yet. It's in the "Inside Scoop" first thing on that page.

Could we dare hope for a new sport quad from Suzuki? I also have that issue and according to the mag both Yamaha and Suzuki will have a 400cc-range sport/hi-performance quad for 2001. I'm betting on the YZ426F or maybe the WR400 motor for the Yamaha and probably the new DRZ400 motor in the Suzuki. Now if they can make them handle well..... Hopefully this is a definite plan for the future and not just another magazine rumor.

Suzuki definately needs something to revamp not only their ATV product line, but their public image. I hope that the different plastic on the old LT series was just a stopgap. Either that, or they keep that line as a super-utility small ATV series and develop a different line of Sport-utes in the 300-400 class. Similar to what Kawasaki did with the Bayous and Prairies.

A new Quadsport is more likely than a Quadracer. Although Suzuki has the technology and winning 250-class powerplant to start off from, it won't happen. With the combination of the econazi's overzealous and blantantly misinformed attack on the 2-stroke powerplant , and the still unhealed wounds over many wrongful lawsuits, it would be nothing short of a miracle for Suzuki to make another big 2-stroke sport quad. Although they now have a great 400 four-stroke powerplant to work with (at least on paper), I'm not sure about that, either. If Suzuki releases a new sport quad, I am betting it will be in the popular 250-300cc four-stroke trail class.

I really, really, hope I am wrong, though.
