I have heard rumors that Suzuki is looking to put a 500-650cc motor in the KQ? Any one else heard anything about this

I would not classify the King Quad as being "in the dust". True, it's an old design...but it is also a very proven one. It is also a 300 and from what I've seen is often compared to the 450 and 500 machines. Maybe this is because Suzuki went so long before launching a 500 onto the market.

I own KQ and every other owner I talks to loves their machine. I personally looked at the 300 machines from Polaris, Yamaha, Honda, and Kawi and liked some things about each one. But Suzuki's independent rear, true 4wd, impressive gear ranges, and build quality swayed me.

It sounds like they've also hit the nail with the '00 Quadmaster, and now I'm hearing rumors of a 500cc engine in a KQ type machine. That would be something to write about.

oh i know that the kingquad is a great machine and i think the best utility quad out there but what i ment is that other companys are onto 500cc and 600cc and the suzuki hasnt made any big changes on it and its getting smaller as years go by

I still believe that if Suzuki just stuck the transmission & transfer case from the King Quad on the Quadrunner 500, it would be the ultimate. All that torque, low gearing, and diff lock would make a mean mudder.

JONFABRE,the KQ is really only a 280cc engine.Suzuki calls it a 300 but it really is not.I've had two of them and enjoyed them alot.Although after owning the larger 500cc Sportsman,I doubt I'd ever go to the smaller KQ.The power differance and acceleration is conciderably more on the larger cc engines.I'd like to see them install a 500cc engine and go to disk brakes in the KQ.It might be my next purchase if that happend..=====BILL

I Still have trouble beliving Suzuki didnt incorporate the KQ type rear drive and locking front diff. into the first 500cc Engine Design. For a ATV that has performed as well as the KQ in sales, Use and reliability for <blink>Sooo-Long</blink>. My 99 KQ is my third one and I never completly wore my first one out. This is the best Rumor I have heard in a long time...Hope its true.

There's two design features on the King Quads that suck. The first one is the brakes, of course. They must be prone to letting in contaminants more than other machines, cause the '94 that we used to have was terrible at that. In the winter time is where is was most noticeable. Water would get into the front brakes and then it would freeze at night and in the morning the front tires would be froze solid, not being able to move an inch. The second design that sucks on them is the front a-arm mount. I'm talking about the end of the a-arm where it mounts to the spindle. They use a ball joint type of connection, and a screw that holds it in. When the screw wears down, your a-arm can come off. This happened on ours, and it's a good thing I was in super low range when it happened. Most other manufacturers use castle nuts with a cotter pin through it; there's no way that's coming off by itself. Maybe Suzuki fixed these two things when they redesigned the King Quads, I don't really know. As for a bigger King Quad, I think that would be great. The ATV industry really needs more competition for the Sportsman 500. This means a big bore with independent rear suspension. It's almost like Polaris has a monopoly with the Sportsmans, there's nothing else like it. If Suzuki would come out with something with a utility machine with a 500cc+ engine, way more suspension travel whan what the King Quad has now, and keep the transmission options and 2wd/4wd/differential lock, they would have a machine! Maybe an automatic version also, that would be nice too.

I think it would be great if they put the bigger engine in the king. With the gear combinations and differntial lock it just might be one of the greatest muddin atvs ever.
