I have a chance to buy a 1991 LT250R that is all stock with a new top-end. Me being a Kawasaki and Honda guy, I don't much about them. Is one worth $1500? How do they compare to a TRX250R?? Thanks!!!

Very closely compared to 250r,, Igave 2000 for a completly rebuilt one,, 1500 dont sound bad,, check swingarm over good though. the early years were bad about breakin them,, matter of fact i need a swingarm for mine now

If you're from the left coast, and you don't buy it, I'll take it.
Thanks,
Jeff

The 91 is a great buy for $1500. It has great rear suspension and handles well, unfortunately not as tight as a 250R but the Lt is very comparible. With the same amount of mods it will beat a Kawi Tecate-4, I know because my brother-in-law has one and my '87 Lt smokes it. It is lower to the ground than a Tecate as well, but they feel very similar in handling as there is a noticeable difference between the LT and R. The R has better fron suspension stock, I have to say. Top speed I couldn't tell you as I have never actually raced my Lt against an R. But would have to say the R will pull away. The '91 is also a good buy because the earlier models ('85-'86) didn't have the 6th gear yet and the frames are beefier on the later models as well.

JD250r,
the Qr250 is a great ride. The only advantage I have found that the R has over the LT is the front suspention and the fact that the R does not have as noticable bump steer like the LT. However the addition of a steering damper( about $99-125 for a good one) will make the LT handle better. Like Zukiracer said watch for cracked swingarms. I replace the one on my Zilla with a Legear built model which works much better. For that price if the bike is clean go for it. I have a swingarm from mine it is in good shape all it needs is new bearings if anyone would need it. See ya in the woods

I remember reading reviews way back when they did a comparison between the 250r's (Honda, Kawi, Suzuki). The Tecate-4 was the fastest followed by the LT-250, and then TRX 250r bringing up the rear.

Yes, a later model swingarm will bolt right up to an 85 or 86. I got one off of a 90 model and it works perfectly.....but I also bought one from quad pro for an 86 model....
I am going to try to return it since I don't need it any longer. Also Zuki, I got an email from some one that is selling a swingarm and carrier for $100 and he will throw in a dura-blue axel for $35 more. If you are interested post here.
