does it happen after you tow it on a trailer. i ask because i had that problem with a tag along cement mixer. i quess the float bounces around, dumping the fuel in the bowl into the crank case. to stop this i would turn off the fuel, and let it run till it used up the fuel in the bowl. or maybe you have a sinking float. just my 2 cents.

Turn your fuel petcock to off.
Most likely: carb float stuck open. Carb fills with gas: carb is tilted towards engine: gas flows into intake: one valve is open:
Pull carb or at least float bowl and clean it out. Make sure float is not full of gas.
Also possible. If you have a vacumm type petcock: vacumm diaphram has hole in it. Vac line is connected to intake manifold: tank drains into intake... into the engine.

Check the fuel valve(petcock), if it has a fuel line to the carb and a smaller line to the intake side of the carb, thats probably where the problem is, if not then the float is stuck open, a piece of dirt or other debris is holding it open, BUT that usually makes it rich and smoke and smell like fuel out of the pipe. Also it should have a overflow tube out of the carb and fuel will spill out of it if the float is stuck.
