ecbaatz will locking the differential in any range wear out the bearings prematurely.i've heard the bearings don't last on 4wd's!?and how would you seal the brakes better from water and mud?just wondering.

I have not seen any problems with the bearings using the differential lock but I don't use it for extended periods of time at high speeds. I just like the fact that I can lock it in any range if I feel the need. You definitely do not want to travel at high speeds with it locked. Steering is very very difficult.

As far as the brake sealing I have no information on that Bill C would be an excellent choice to ask. He has more experience with that type of repair/maintenance then I do.

That's a great story, Tree Farmer. I knew a guy that had a '65 Vette, four speed. It was fun to ride, the one or two times I did. But I could never afford the insurance nor the car note... Anyway, Bill said I installed a after market exhaust pipe on my '99 KQ. Yep! That was the first alteration I made. Then I installed a jet kit for the carb. After some trial and error, I'm happy with the results. It's quicker at low speeds and seems not to use any more gas then before the changes. But I think Bill's right about the tires. You want to get low profile tires or keep the same size in height that you have now. I don't have tires yet. It is my thinking that it's best to use the tires that came with the unit until such time they need replacing. Tires aren't cheap and these other things can help make your tires work for you, UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS. You have to decide what's right for you. Bill, how many times did you have to pull me out of the mud last Monday, was it four or six? I lost count.
Hope this helps, Jester.

I never said that it couldn't out pull Polaris, It just needs more top end power, when in high gear... Other than that it can outpull anypolaris, or go through more mud than any polaris.
And I'm talking stock tires too... Why don't a few of u guys come out to Jester's Revenge near my place. I can prove my theory of the KIng Quad

thank u very much for ur help Bill... I have since the last time I wrote "Polaris Suck!" in the Polaris forum, stopped saying stuff about other people's quads... I will never say anything about other people's quads again, because I found from someone who lives near me, what it feels like to have there machines put down, the feeling sucks, so I don't want other people the feel the same.

Eric, you need to establish a nice lil' web page with detailed instructions of all these KQ mods. I think my next mod will be the back-up light. What type light did you use for this? Do you have it wired to to a manual switch or some type of plunger switch behind the reverse lever?

Blazer 316,
The front drums are easy to get to,remove the tires,[watch for the proper placement of the rubber seals,we will re-install them later]than carefully pull of the drums. You may have to stick a screwdriver in between the drum and backing plate if they are really on there.

Once the drums are removed, use your garden hose to clean off ALL the debree/sludge from the brake components including the drums.Go to any parts store and purchase ANY brand of Brake and Parts cleaner.Spray down the same parts you just used your garden hose on, with this Brake and Parts cleaner.

If you have access to compressed air, blow dry everything completely dry,if not,use the hair dryer to dry the brake linings better.

Purchase a small container of WATERPROOF grease at your Parts store, clean all the seals and add a liberal amount of this to your seals before re-installing everything. This waterproof grease will HELP [not prevent] to keep out the debree/water from entering inside your linings. The best thing to do is to stay out of the deep mud and water with the KQ.I've had a 87 model and a 97 model, after a good day in the mud,it sure did pack the KQs brakes with debree.

BTW,let me know how you made out with the front brakes,I'll help you in the rear to.===Bill
