Best Carb for A Zilla?
#1
Hey guys I was wondering what carb you zilla owners are running and what carb you think would get the most out of the zilla motor? I'm currently running a 44mm mikuni, I have a dip in the middle of the power band but it really takes off on the top end. I was wondering if there was a different carb or size that would smooth out my flat spot in the middle but still keep my massive top end. Thanks for all of your help. Also another thing, have any of you ran the lectron carbs? I was thinking of switching my fuel type and I heard that lectrons were the way to go. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Rod... Fairly common problem with runnning the 44... The problem is velocity...or lack thereof. Changing to a smaller carb will help the throttle response, but you'll lose your huge top end.
I've got a little speed secret for ya:
Ever heard of a WFO? It's a little gizmo that mounts under the slide that helps with turbulence in a round slide carb. The WFO makes a HUGE signal increase at idle and part throttle so the motor really wants to run rich there after they are put in. Taper boring these carbs on the oulet side also helps with the velocity issue.
I'm working on a carb for my duner that will be 45.5mm by 46.5mm w/no powerjet.
I don't have the link handy, but if you searched the net.... you should be able to find these. They were prominent in the snowmobile industry for a while.
IMHO the lectron carbs work great, but $25 for a needle gets pretty steep in the jetting dept.. Plus I think they are over priced to begin with..
My $.02
