Default eiger fuel filter

If you go look at the pics I have posted on my page, you can see an example of where I put my filter.

Default eiger fuel filter

Um, got a question. I noticed that there are high flow fuel filters out there and wondered if we should be using them. I have installed the same filter as above on my Eiger and went riding the other day. It seemed fine, then when I was winching out a buddy, and applying some throttle, she died. I couldn't get it started until I turned the fuel valve to PRI. Then she fired right up. Fuel was at a half tank. The only thing I can figure is that either the carb ran dry due to loss of supply from filter, or it was at a bad angle, was facing down hill, and couldn't get fuel. But I assume that the vaccum pulls fuel, not gravity fed. So I am not sure why PRI would start it right up, and normal and reserve fuel selections would not. I also assume that the fuel screen is not suficient and a filter should be used?

Thanks all,
Mortis...

Wow, this is an old thread. The petcock is "supposed" to be vacuum operated. What this means is that vacuum from the carb opens the petcock, when not running there is no vacuum and the valve should close. I say supposed, cause most of the time I have found the valve to always be open. If you were facing down hill and ran out of fuel then yer s is working fine. When its on PRI the valve is wide open and allows fuel from both tubes to fill the line. I assume ya understand how the reserve fuel works. The carbs are gravity fed.
The lil screen may be enough but when yer riding the places most riders take these things you need a lil extra insurance, or filtering. The screen can become clogged a lot faster than a filter and the screen lets more contaminants into the bowl which end up clogging yer jet.

Welcome to the forums, feel free to ask ???????????????? and ask lots of ??????????, thats the reason we are here.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your time.

Do you think that a high flow filter is necessary?

again, thank you,

Mortis...
