Suzuki Eiger stuck in 4WD!
Riding today and all of a sudden my Eiger would not shift out of 4WD. I guess it is better than the other way around, being stuck in two wheel drive. Any suggestions of where to begin trying to correct this? The lever seems to be working fine and you can feel the tension in the line but it just won't come out of it.

Check your shift cable from the 4x4 lever to the plunger on the front diff. Ive had to replace mine twice now. Got pinched once while plowing snow and once while making trails in heavy brush. Also check the adjustment where it goes into the diff. theres only about 1/4 inch of through there so youlll need to get all 4-wheels off the ground to check it. Youll probably need to remove the bolts holding the diff. to the frame to get in there its quite a tight area to work in.

i had the same problem on my 04 eiger, the cable from the 4wd lever has an adjustment inline right where the cable goes in the body at the base of the handle bars. i think the cable stretched had no more problems since i made the adjustment. designed to default to 4wd if cable breaks.

That member hasn't posted anything in 10 years. Its likely that he's not around anymore. That thread was from 12 years ago. It most likely needs a linkage adjustment, much like shift linkage on a lot of cvt auto quads when they won't go into gear properly. I didn't realize Suzuki was still using this system on the King Quad 400. Most quads just use push button shifting for 4x4, even going back to the late 90's. Honda still uses a lever on some of its newer 4x4 quads too. I saw a Rancher 420 recently and it has a lever to shift into 4x4.
