Default '86 quadracer problems!!

ok so jere is the story. I bought an '86 quadracer about 2 months ago as a basket case. in the 2 months i have stripped the frame repainted everything, replaced whetever looked worn out and so on. The guy i bought it from told me the stator was shot and thats why it hasn't ran in 4 yrs. well anyways its all back together now. yesterday i deceided to test the spark ....what do you know its fine/ so then i run to the gas station put some go-go juice in her, pull the choke lever up and guess what?? second kick she fires up, idles and everything. now my problem is when i push the choke lever down she has a bad bogg then stalls out almost like the choke is on. once it is warmed up i can start it with the choke lever up, but it taked about 10 kicks and then about 5 sec. later die out. can anyone help me out? i sprayed starting fluid around the motor and nothing happened. so there is no air leak anywhere. am i doing something wrong? Is the stator bad? thanx for any input
