Problem w/ oil on z400
I had this problem a long time ago, and I had all the misgivings anyone would that experienced it. Having oil gush out of the oil tank is not something that makes anyone comfortable. I thought I had a clogged oil line or something.
Anyway,,,I wanted to reiterate, that I heard the problem was (on this forum): I was checking the oil too soon after I shut the engine down and it had not had a chance to drain from the engine back to the oil tank. When I checked the oil it looked low (because some of the oil was still in the engine). Then, at some point I put more oil in the tank thinking it was low (BTW, I don't remember doing that). When the oil drained back into the engine it was now overfull. I was checking the oil in my garage, before I went on rides and the engine hadn't run for days. It would gush out.
Now, the next time I changed oil I put in exactly 2100ML. Both my son and I ride the bike, so I told him,,,DO NOT ADD ANY OIL WITHOUT TELLING ME. I have not had the problem since. It has been almost 6 months and many rides with no problems.
My conclusion was someone was adding oil after checking it too soon after the engine was shut down and it looked low (it could have been me after a few beers and I don't remember) or my son. I think the reason it gushed was not because I checked it too soon after shutting down. That does not make sense. I think it is because you checked it too soon after it was shut down AND oil was added because it looked low. My expierience anyway.
Good Luck.
