poor steering, wide on the trails, stock swing arms crack. I put MX radials on the front to improve steering.I also replaced the swing arm with a -2 inch aftermarket. The bike does rattle alot and needs to be tightened up after a couple of rides. I lost the both that holds the head to the motor, a front caliper bolt which caused the front wheel to lock up and some other assorted nuts and bolts. They are a good bike just watch the rear axle on the trees. I have a +3 axle on my 500. But the bike now is about as wide as most MX bikes which makes for great cornering on the trails. If you are going to but one make sure you run through allthe gears on the bike u may buy. I also has the clutch boss strip out andreplaced it with a hinsion race clutch. My head is port and polih by Paul turner (national).
check out the site below for photos of my 500. and email me if you have any questions before you buy one.

I have heard that the '87 model is more prone to blown head gaskets so they switched from a six bolt head to a seven bolt head in 1988-1990. The '87 model also has a different reed cage and jetting. Can't say whether one is better than the other, but why would the factory change it if it wasn't for the better? Also changed the upper A-arms to beefier ones in 1988 (I think the '87 has square arms). I believe there are some changes to the bottom end, but not sure what...
