That's what I'm thinkin too.. the bolts possibly vibrated loose or maybe didn't double check
torque specs, always something to stumble over. Always a good idea to check and check again and then check again or have someone else double check...check mate !!!! LOL !!!!

I picked up a Milton compression tester for under 45.00 at the local auto parts store.
Have you taken the head off to look at the bore yet??

ok, good news...but i still need help. it starts. i put a new plug in, tightened everything, head, cylinder, carb boots. the carb now has a 180 main, 52 pilot and is on the third clip on the needle. now the problem is, it starts right up sounds good (i only set the idle and blip it a few times to check the plug color), but the plug looks like it is still brand new. no signs that it was used, no color. it can't be running that lean, can it. it sounds tight. i'm still going to pick up a compression tester though. well, what's everyone's $.02 on this now.

Just blippin the throttle a few time's may not show any color, especially if your close to dialed in.Is that a khein carb?If so the jetting should be ok,it maybe kinda fat.Take it for a ride with a plug wrench, run it through the gear's.A lean carb will make the engine sound flat at top end and you'll feel it loose power, too rich will make the engine not clean out and have a dull sound from the engine and not reach top end. After you've ran it through the gear's,and reaching top end count to 3 and shut it off, stop it and then do the plug check.
It sound's crazy, but I 've learned to dial my carb's in this way,by listening to the engine and feeling the power of the engine and doing research on dialing a carb in this way by going to Macdizzy.com and many other site's on the web.Keep note's of what you have done with jetting, gearing, tire pressure,or anything you have done to the machine, from how it ran and what does and don't work for that quad,I have three note book's full of note's on my Zilla. From when I first got motor work,to every carb that I bought to how much money I spent.I guess I took drag racing to serious, but it paid off and saved me money a few time's.
