id say there better over all than the 85/86. but depending on whats done to your lt you should be able to beat a stock one if your lt is piped, has reeds, filtered, pistonized lol...an 87+ lt would spank one tho.z's are nice bikes id love to have one and my lt250r.

o yeah retard tell that to my brother and cousin who both have 86s my 90 has the same mods mine takes them out of the hole and wins every race by at least a couple quad legths the powervalve give much better power off the bottom and closes at 5500rpm to allow good top end power

I removed the gut that operate the power valve and locked it shut, that way I don't have to worry about it getting gummed up for Drag racing.I've wood's rode my Zilla, through the whoop's and hill climbed it.Having it locked did'nt bother the low end on mine.Kinda stupid tacking a Drag quad for "A" that's "ONE ride through the wood's,too fast for it.I mostly could only stay in 2nd gear, and could'nt open it up much,so I went to where the other rider's where Drag racing,Kinda funny when they all line up on CR 500's,250 Kawi's,250 Yammy's and you beat them by bus length's in 660 ft.300ft.I was still dominating. But the power valve does help performance out,it help's the power band like mentioned by captinquadracer. If the power band is'nt a factor to performance then why are they making after market Banshee cylinder's with them??

The 86 and 90 are 2 different engines. Yes the 90 has a powervalve, but it also has a different stroke and displacement than the 86. I don't remember the exact numbers but i think the 86 is actually a coupl cc's bigger but has a shorter stroke, thus the 90 has a smaller displacement and longer stroke. this was an upgrade in 87 and it really woke up the 250
