Trade it in or sell outright
#1
SHould I trade in my 04 Z250 or should I sell it outright. Not been ridden hard and has had all normal maintenance overdone( because I was paranoid cause it was my first ever ride) and I know the retail is around $3800 but my grandpa got jacked and paid $4500 for it. I think it is worth around, bare minimum, $3100. So I need opinions!

man, I'de sell it for at least 3300 or more since you've worked on it so much keeping it clean. It always helps to try to sell it at the regular price, and then when they give you an offer, it might be what you were actually asking ;-). Good luck selling it!

You'd be better selling it outright, although prices have came down a lot since the new models have shown up. You should be able to get a good price for it though. It will be a great starter quad for someone else too. Maybe sell it to a friend, then you'll have someone else to ride with. You can ask $3,500 and come down, but honestly, you can get a z400 for less than $3,500 now. I paid $3,500 for mine a few months ago and it's like brand new when I got it. List it locally first maybe. Or try atvtraderonline. Put up ads or ask around, word of mouth.

Give the quad back to your Grandfather to do whatever he wants with it.
Then go and buy your own quad with your own money. You might not want to get rid of it so fast when the money comes from your own pocket.

Hey hey now dont make accusations when you dont know the full story. I work on his farm maintaining 6 horses and stalls draging the gravel driveway and the field/pasture, tending to the plants and crops, and I am just now starting on a project to paint around 80,000 ft of fencing! So dont be telling me I didnt work to get that quad. I am just asking a simple question.

A guy I know has an 03 ozark that he paid 3700 for new, and the dealer offered him 1800. Its spotless, low hours. Quads dont hold much retail value, might keep that in mind before you plan too much. Look around and see what there selling for, and watch to see how long they take to get sold at certain prices. There might be guys asking 3300 or so, but they also might still be trying to sell them 3 months from now.

Is the title of the Z250 in your name?
Here's my assumption. Grandpa put out the cash to buy his Grandson a new 2004 Z250. His grandson worked a bit on the family farm and now thinks that he deserves it because of all his work. (People work on paying payments on one of these quads for up to 5 years.) Then his Grandson got caught up in all the hype about the bigger and better quads and now he wants something bigger. The quad title can not be in your name because you are too young. Now you're trying to figure out what you can get out of the Z250 so you can get something bigger. You are probably also bugging your grandfather for something bigger. Your probably coming up with all sorts of excuses why the Z250 falls short. All this when you shouldn't even be on a 250 at your age.
Now if Grandpa wants to join the forum to ask some questions. I'll answer some for him. You should be doing everything you're are doing for your Grandfarther and more. And you shouldn't be expecting one darn thing for your efforts because he's your Grandfather.
Be thankful for what you've got. It's more than a lot of other children have.

I'll give an answer so you can learn a little bit.
Don't ever trade something in because you can always get more by selling it yourself. It comes down to how much time you have and how desperate you are. You can find the values for your quad by going to KBB.com or NADA.com. You should also compare atv ads in your local newspapers. We cannot give you an accurate price without seeing the quad. The prices also vary depending on where you live. You'll do whatever you think you need to do and you'll learn.
