Well i now can no longer say i have never broken a bone, i broke my left ankle in 2 or 3 spots, and i am getting a 8 to 10 inch plate put in... I hit a jump a little lop sided and left foot came off the peg and went under the wheel, sucked me off the bike and under the wheel, i remember the rear tire being on my chest at one point, Lucky i had my cell phone, if only i would hve put those damn nerf bars on that have been in the back room for 4 months...
Anyway everyone ride saf, i still am thankfull i was wearing my helmet, god only knows what could have happened.

Wasnt there a thread just a few days ago!!!!
Sorry to hear it Mark. You will be alright. I broke my ankle pretty bad 10 years ago(metal plate, 6 screws,,,,which came out after 2 years),,,,and I was lucky,,,, my folks found me a good surgeon to put it back together. Getting the metal will be a good thing,,,,you will be able to start your physical therapy much sooner and be much better off.
Take care of yourself, listen to your doctor and heal up quick!!!

thanks again for all the kind words, it really does help. Yes it was my shifting foot, which will end up being a blessing in disguise, because they wont take my license away. I broke the bone on the back of my leg about 6 inches up from the ankle and that is what is going to be the basterd, thats why i am getting the plate, and yes i will have about half a dozen screws. hey bing what was the pain like before and after surgery? I was supposed to go into surgery on tuesday but the ER doctor set my ankle wrong and it swelled up MAN did that hurt, so the specialist reset it and put it back in a temp cast, it feels better now but still hurts, does the pain go down after surgery?
Thanks,
Mark
Thanks,

Hey, glad u are okay. It could've been worse.
Now it's going to be a pain in the *** for you when you go to the airports
*your plates and screws will set the detectors off*

As I recall....I had my staples and cast removed within about 10 days of surgery. At that point I was able to start rehab. My leg was swollen to 3 times its normal size. The screws and plate will hold things in the right place and your bones will heal much faster/stronger,,,with a minimal amount of atrophy to your leg. The only thing that was holding me back was the swelling.
I was back to 99% within a year,,,although I did tend to favor it for about 3 years. 10 years later all I notice is a slightly larger right ankle (in diameter),,,,,and the beginning of what seems to be a bone spur developing (sometimes I get a sharp nerve pain if I step the wrong way) (once a month). Oh,,,,and I do have some numb skin right in the area of the incision (about 1"x2") due to severed nerve endings.
btw, I broke my tibia just above the anklebone (at an angle/splintered) while wrestling on the beach (my buddy pulled a very successful leg sweep,,,,and the sand didnt want to leg go of my foot). When I realized something was wrong,,,,I looked down and I was staring at the sole of my shoe (pointing straight up).
