I have a 86 suzuki 250R I jsut put brand new barnette clutches in it. I soaked them in oil for 7 minutes liek the directions said to do. Then i put the clutches in and then run it for a day or 2 it ran fine no slipping. then after runnign it for a while i noticed they were slipping more and more. at the time i was running 15w40 motor oil. (same oil as i soaked the clutches in). Then i bought this oil thats is the best oil on th emarket they said. It was as thin as tranny fluid but would stick as good as 70weight oil. I put it in because i figured the oil was to thick. I tryed that and still slipped. Then i took the whole sidecase off and checked the clutches to make sure all the springs were tight. they all were tight. I put 6 fiber clutches in and 6new steel discs in liek the directions said. What may be wrong? Anyone have any sugestions> Oh yea the clutch basket itself is new.
thanks,
jimmy

did the springs come with the clutch or are they stock?
if they're stock replace them
and are there the same amount of disks and plates as the old clutch
and make sure your clutch lever isnt tight
I know some people run 20w50 oil
and if all else fails go here http://www.barnettclutches.com/

you should have 1 more fiber than steel there should be a fiber top and bottom with steel inbetween all fibers, if you only have 6 of each then you have steel on either the top or bottom with no fiber between the basket and the steel (bad news the steel will wear basket badly) put an old fiber in and give it a try and let me know.

i would take the plates and stuff out,and count them like the previous post said, make sure the thrust washer is between the inner and outer baskets.and if its installed right drive them to where you bought them from and throw them as symbols of your discontent. i ordered an 87 clutch once and they sent me an 85 clutch, and then said i had to pay a 20 percent re-stocking fee for their mistake, because they said i didnt specify 87,but they gave in.
