2000 King Quad with Battery Problems Need Help
#1
I have a 2000 King Quad that is store outside in a shed. I don't drive it very much and the first battery went on it about 4 months ago. (so was 4 yrs old) I replaced it with another battery from my autoparts store (it was a generic brand...forget who made it) and now 4 months later this one appears to be toast too. My question....whats the life expectancy out of a battery for these things? I know I should be starting it up more often...(usually every 2-3 weeks I do it)....but since there is no alternator to charge these things why would this matter?
need some input on why might this 2nd battery be failing already.
thanks....ummmmm I dont' know very much about my quad so if you could point me in the right direction as far as to where certainly things are it would be great....diagrams or pictures very welcome. Also if anybody knows of a good place to find some kind of service manual...that would be great too.
thanks jeff

You can get a service manual at the dealership...price is about the same as elsewhere.
You may have a short circuit, which would wreck the battery in a short amount of time. Youll need a digital ampmeter, to trouble shoot that. If you dont have an ampmeter, just disconnect the battery when youre done using it. Connect the ampmeter in series, with the positive cable, and with the key off, current flow should be less than .5 milliamps.
A battery tender, will keep the battery is good shape, no matter how long it sits.
Your quad has a stator...which is basicly an alternator with out a field.
Try this for parts and diagrams.
