Default Reverse Rev Limiter Questions...

Hey all,

The reverse Rev Limiter on the LT-Z400 is constantly getting in the way, When i first bought the ATV about 1.5 months ago, i never noticed the Reverse Rev limiter, but now every time i go into reverse, the rev limiter kicks in..

Does a new CDI incread the Reverse Rev Limiter? Is there anything that can be done ti get rid of or atleast increase the Reverse Rev Limiter?

Thanks.

Chad

there is a way to get rid of the rev limiter by doing something electrical, im sure someone on here who is electrically inclined can answer the question.

You can probably locate the switch that is activated when the reverse gear is selected and disconnect the wire. If you have a service manual, the wiring diagram will show where it sits in the circuit. If you unplug or otherwise expose wires, be sure to protect them from water or other damage. You will also need to realize that the limiter is there for a reason. The bike is much harder to control going backwards at any speed. Is the limiter so sensitive that it keeps you from being able to get moving or is it just annoying?

Well, when i first bought the bike, it was never a problem, but now you can't hardly give it any gas or it rev's out and if you let out the clutch when it's hitting the rev limiter then it dies..

I don't know what's changed, but just to back it out of my shed it dies about 5 times, because of the rev limiter.

the backing out of the shed problem might be because of it not being warmed up, i know my warrior dies if i try to back it out of my garage when its not warmed up.

Fox has a good point. My Z does that when it's cold (I'm in semi-tropical Louisiana, so cold is somewhere around 75 degrees). Another thing I would suggest before you molest the wiring harness would be to avoid hitting the rev limiter when you're in reverse. Try to go easy on the gas then fan the clutch slowly, that way you don't hit the limiter until you're moving.

I should mention that in order to get it out of the shed, i do have to go up and over a concrete ledge that is about 2-3" high.

Thus the reason i need to rev. the engine up a bit to get over it. It's almost like Suzuki has the Reverse Rev Limiter set to just above idle.. Which i guess makes since on flat land, but if you have an incline, or like myself have something you need to back over, it's set way too low to be usefull.

Default Reverse Rev Limiter Questions...

I found these directions on this site. I did it over a year ago and have had no problems.

LT-Z400 reverse rev limiter disabler.
This will have all indicator lights working and the rev limiter set to 9000 for all gears and neutral, just like the factory setup. All changes will be made to the CDI connector. The pins on the connectors come out easy. Just unplug it from the CDI unit and as you look into the connector with the lock on the top, take a small screw driver and slide it in just above the pin you want to remove then pull on the wire.
1)Disconnect the black wire with the red trace and the blue wire with the black trace and put a piece of shrink tubing over each one of them and put a dab of silicone in the hole the wires came out of.
2)Pull out the black wire with the brown trace and the black wire with the white trace. Keep track of the hole they came out of. Make a small jumper wire (approx. 28 ga.) about 2" long, slide it under the rubber seal on the black/brown wire connector pin and solder it to the pin. Do the same with the other end of the jumper and solder to the black/white wire connector pin. Now put these two pins back in there respective holes. Put a dab of silicone between the jumper wire and the wire it is next to.
