My 230 smokes it is not burning oil and I adjusted the carb it did not help. The 230 is stock. If i have to ring it to get it to stop ware can I get a new stock sleeve just in case.

If it smokes, it's probably burning oil. I would just bore the cylinder .010 over and get a new piston and rings.

If you got compression, it might not be rings. you can check compression with a gauge, book says it should be 171 to 228 psi. I had that problem with mine, and it wasn't rings. I knew it wasn't because it had to much compression when kicking it over. It ended up being valve seals. They get old and wear out.

Oh yea, before you tear into it, there's a way to tell if it's rings or valve seals when you do the compression test by the way the compression builds on the gauge. I can't remember exactly how, I'll look it up for ya in a minute.

Most likely it's the valve seals. Very common problem with the 230 motor.
