Anybody carry a GPS?
I have a garmin , and bought the bicycle mount from sportmans wearhouse too. It mounts to any tube thats from 5/8 to 1." diameter, and the back of the gps, the battery cover, is replaced by one that has a mating latch to work with the mount. I carry mine all the time, and other than batteries dieing, its been fine.
I tried the cable for using the power from the quad, but if you stop and shut off the motor...unless you have batteies in the gps, it dumps the information. So even with the cable, its necessary to have batteries. Also if you ever need to hoof it out of the woods, youll want it working then too.

Yes you will want to keep batteries just in case you need to walk back to the truck but as for the other stuff I have to disagree. If you turn the ignition off the GPS will turn off but you don't lose any data at least not with my GPS unit. If you are plotting a new trail it brings you back to where you turned the machine off so I don't see any problem. Save those batteries for an emergency and save a buck.

I put it in its leather carry case and clip it to the old lady's camelback. Take a look at it whenver we come to a stop.

I lose info on my old Magellan 315 if I dont keep batteries in it.
Mine mainly stays hooked to my truck,,,and occasionally the cigerette lighter plug will fall out,,,,so i keep the batteries.
I also have to switch batteries in under like 2 minutes or info will be lost (if not hooked to the truck 12v)

You guys are great! Looks like the handlebar mount is the way to go. I did see one that goes on the gas tank, metal goes around the filler hole. Kinda liked this idea too but not sure it would fit my Z.
Any of you in So Cal? We are supposed to head out to the desert but rain is coming, damit!!!!
