Default Eiger low idle only when cold

Seems my Eiger's idle takes quite a while to get up to normal when it's cold. I keep it on full choke for 30 seconds then 1/2 choke for 1-2 minutes. When I take the choke off(Eiger still sitting and has not moved), my self installed tach shows idle at about 1k. Sometimes it will conk out. Restart with partial choke and let run 15 seconds or so. It's only when I give it enough gas and it starts getting warm will it begin to idle at 1500 or so. If I never gave it gas it would take a 5 minutes before it ever got up to 1500 while just sitting and idling. I'm only talking temps in the 20's to and not high altitude. Is this normal.

I've had it to the dealer twice(only was hit 1 time for $50 though). First time they said the gas tank was full of crud so they cleaned it out and said they cleaned the carb. Idle still didn't seem right and it would backfire slightly when I shut it off. Took it back and they said the problem was the negative battery cable was loose(which it was) and this was causing my plug to foul prematurly b/c it would crank but it just arched until I had to use the pull start. It does not backfire that I know of now but I have only driven up and down street to get it hot and shut it off to see if the most recent visit cured that problem. In my shed while letting it warm up and giving it some high RPM's I can see some smoke come out of exhaust. Not horrible but visible.

It definently tachs up much better and smoother than before. I am still concerned about the low idle. Seems people say theres gets to normal in 30 seconds. Mine is nowhere near this. I asked the dealer to adjust the air/fuel mixture on my 2nd visit but they said it was my negative battery cable and low idle speed casuing the problem. As far as I know it has never been touched. I'm sick of hauling it back to the dealer(even though I'm only inot it for $50 for 2 servcie visits) but I don't like trial and error either. Any clues. Thanks and sorry for long post.

mine will also hesitate when I put it in gear to go when it is cold. I've seen my friend jump on his 300 King Quad after it sat outside for a few days, crank it up and drive off immediately. No way could I have done that. His never hesitated a beat. This whole carb thing is getting on my nerves. Anyone with some advice is appreciated.

I talked to my local mechanic, he said that a jet 1 kit will boost your throttle response so it wont hesitate in gear anymore but that still doesnt solve the choke problem.

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to remove the carb and turn the air/fuel mixture screw about 1 1/2 turns back. I really can't think that rejetting to a bigger jet is ultimately necessary to get the Eiger to run right. If so, I would think there would be hundreds of complaints and Suzuki would need to issue a recall if everyones ran bad due to the wrong size jets being used. I can see the Japenese factory leaning them out for emissions reasons or something so this seems the most plausible solution. I'll keep you posted. Anyone agree or disagree with this.

Removed tank and carb(actually could not get the stupid starter cable off so I just twisted the carb to the side). The air/fuel mixture plug was already removed--huh? Turned it counterclockwise(I assume this is what you do when you back it off as others say) 1 1/2 times. All back together. Seems to run fine. Still does not idle at 1500 RPM until after it warms up but seems to have better throttle response and acceleration. No backfire when shutting it off and no smoke out the exhaust. Maybe my problems are over.

BTW, how do you get that dang starter cable off. The nut was in a very awkward place to get a wrench on it.
