King Quad 700 EFI Recall!
Here's new info on the reverse issue. Suzuki will be issuing a product update campaign to replace our ECM. This is mandatory to keep warranty intact. Here is a post from a local dealer of the specifics.
Just received this fax. NOTICE Suzuki motor corp. has decided to conduct a product update campaign for customers owning 2005 king quads. Suzuki motor corp. has determined that some customers with certain usage patterns may experience a durability problem with the rev. idle gear in 05 king quads. It has been found in some unique situations that using the reverse override switch at near maximum rpm, under high load for an extended period of time may overheat the reverse idle gear and may cause the gear to seize to the reverse idle gear shaft. If this occurs, reverse gear mode will no longer work and the reverse idle shaft may fail causing internal engine damage. In the unlikely event of a reverse gear failure, forward gear will remain operational but the rider should immediately discontinue use of unit.
To maintain the continuity of the warranty and ensure the durability of the transmission, it is mandatory that a replacement ecm be installed at no cost to the customer for parts or labor on all affected king quads within vin range. The ecm which is located under the seat should be replaced with an updated ecm with the new reverse overriding programming. THE ONLY CHANGE TO ECM IS THE REV. OVERRIDE FUNCTION. WHAT THIS WILL DO IS WHEN THE OVERRIDE BUTTON IS PUSHED IT WILL LET THE ENGINE TO REV AT 70-75% OF PEAK RPM TORQUE FOR A MAXIMIM OF 60 SECONDS THAN IT WILL GO INTO NORMAL REVERSE RPM MODE, AFTER A FEW SECONDS YOU CAN PUSH THE OVERRIDE BUTTON AGAIN FOR 60 MORE SECONDS AND FOLLOW THE CYCLE TO YOU DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE. From my opinion suzuki seems to be taken care of there customer and covering the parts if they fail with this mod. I think everyone will agree at 70% max rpm is more than enough to get unstuck in reverse. and with a minute long to do so. i would think if you where reving under full rpm over a minute in my opinion it would be beaten the quad up (ABUSING) anyway. By the way the ecm is showing back ordered as of today, Steve

King Quad 700 EFI Recall!
To date, aprox 30 have lost reverse. Although even 1 is too many, it is not as bad as some would like you to believe considering how many of them have been sold. They were shooting for somewhere around 20,000 units for '05, should be about 1/2 way there.
It's good to see a fix in place. 70-75% of full throttle in reverse should be more than enough for a 700cc machine. I know some will say it should hold up to the abuse, and I agree, but if this limit is the only negative compared to all the positive things the machine has going for it, I can live with that.

I dont like the idea of not having the option for full power in reverse, and I really, really dont like the idea of an intermittent reverse rev limiter. Either give me the power or dont, dont give it to me and then take it away for x number of seconds. That could be dangerous and really a pain if you are backing out of a mud hole or on an incline. I just think the solution is worse than the problem.

how could that be..i am willing to bet 99% of everyone that bought a king quad didnt but it for the reverse override..i have had a lot of suzukis and i would say suzuki is one of the best at getting out of mud in reverse..they give you just enough power to get out..not make it worse by to much power..look at it as a favor..plus i bet suzuki is just hidding the fact the low end stumble everone is talking about would get a little better with this recall..good luck...

suzuki doesnt give me enough reverse power thats why i have all the time reverse override. i want to be able to mash the gas in reverse and claw my way out, not bounce off a limiter that is tellin me stop, because the ignition is cutting out. i dont like half hearted fixes, TO ME.... DO IT RIGHT SUZUKI OR NOT AT ALL!!, and fix it right the first time.
