I agree. I own a 02 Eiger with 589's and will be upgrading to the KQ with Mudlites in June. How many times have I been out with the boys who are stupid enough to ride in the mud or deep snow without a winch and or a foldup shovel. I have been in mud up to the headlights and reversed out with only half throttle, other times I have hit mud 3/4 of wheel deep and not been able to get out. It all depends on the type of mud and if your stuck on something under the mud you cannot see. If it won't move with a quick shot of 3/4 or full throttle forward or back, then a whole 60 seconds of full throttle is not going to get you anywhere either. Guess what, it's time for the winch, that is why we buy them!
For all of you "engineers" out there who are demanding a new transfer case instead of the updated ECM, you really have no idea how long it takes to redesign, test, cast & manufacture these items. I would think it would take them the better part of 6 months or more to redesign and test and approve a new case in time for the 06 production year. Let's face it the people who buy the latest product are the ones who will have the most problems because that is when they show up in real world useage.
You can bitch all you want but there is not one company in the world that makes something perfect the first time. The extreme riders have found a weak spot, Suzuki in my opinion has responded well in the short term to protect both your interest and theirs in your equipment. The next model year will be better for those of us who have waited because of your experience and I for one thank you.
Now I say to you - suck it up, put on your new ECM, use your winch not your throttle, and see what Suzuki will do for you. Ride it like an ATV, not a TANK!

I have to agree. This fix although not perfect ,is reasonable. It's interesting to note that all the folks who are crying about it have yet to find themselves stuck in the mud or snow without enough power to get out.
Also intersting to see riders on 400s get through the same mud holes or snow banks. Skill will have to make the difference rather than full throttle.......
This is a great bike. Not a perfect bike. We all wanted the first ones knowing the possibility of something like this. I have over 700 mi on mine and so far I am happy.

You guys can roll over if you want. It's your call. I want what I paid for......and I paid for a machine that performed and fuctioned like the machine that I test drove and bought on day one. Not a machine who's performance is downgraded later on by the manufacturer as the cheapest way to reduce their costs because of a design flaw. How many of you would have bought the machine today? Not me. Not until they fix the design problem. And for those of you that are minimizing the recall, what is your reaction going to be when Suzuki does improve the design and rachets the reverse and reverse functions back to where they should be? I guarantee that they will because this bandaid fix sux and the weak design still exits plus it's going to get killed by the competition who's reverse works at the level it should for big bore machines. I'll be pi$$ed. Not only will you not have a machine that performs as it originally did when it was sold to you, but you'll have a machine "with the reverse design flaw" that will depreciate like a rock because it's got the bandaid fix and still sports the same weak components. Good luck to you.

I think we need to lighten up a little on the manufacturer. One minute you are praising them...the next shooting them down. Suzuki is without a doubt a world class operation. I cannot imagine, as the author of this thread suggested that "it is a math thing" and that Suzuki is figuring in the loss due to design failure. These guys have put out some awesome products...and the K.Q. is no exception. There are always alarmists that go to the extreme when something goes wrong. In this case, percieving Suzuki as having some conspiracy against the consumer is...a little off!

It has nothing to do with the belief that there is some conspiracy going on (too much TV for somebody). I was sold one thing and now am being asked to settle for something else AFTER they have my money. I believe it is more of a matter of principle. I want the performance and features of the big bore machine that I originally bought. I bought a big bore machine because that's the performance that I use (in reverse too), not just because I want to take my friends out into the garage and point to a big number on the side of a piece of clean plastic.

I for one would never have bought a Kingquad, had I know the reverse problem..never !! And I will talk as many people out of buying one as I can..if the baster*s dont fix it right !!! screwzuki

Well thought I would let everyone know that I got my UPDATED ECM at 108 miles. Today at 120, my reverse went out. So if any one wants mine when it's fixed, it's for sale. The winch, mudlites, cv gaurds, and moose rack bag all go with it. Any takers?? lol Bet not.

This is a sad development. Wonder what Suzuki will have to say about this? A case redesign is looking more and more like the only fix. Can't see that happening though.

I agree given the # of failures, however I don't think you are going to see it on the 05's. 2006 models I would imagine would be fixed with more than an ECM patch, especially if the reverse componets continue to fail with the new ECM. The case however may not have to be redesigned so much as the parts inside it. I don't think the 05 owners should give up hope or shoot the manufacturer until they have had a chance to research the failures and test so replacement options.
Who knows, maybe in a few months you all will get another letter telling you to bring it in for an upgrade to the reverse parts as well.
Although I have checked on both the US and Canadian websites for Suzuki and can find no mention of this situation at all, it would be nice if the manufacturer would give us some information instead of allowing the rumor mill to run unchecked.
