KING QUAD OR NOT

Hi guys long time lurker first time poster. Well for the longest time I was going to buy the BF750 but after the KQ came out I start reading all the reviews on the bike and Followed both the good and the bad of both bikes for about 3 months now. Well today I went to a local dealer and put down 1,200 on a red KQ. The reverse issue doesn't scare me because I will break this bike in properly and not abuse the reverse. Plus running synthetic oil will add extra protection. If all else fails you still have the 5 yr warranty on the reverse gear from suzuki on all 05' KQ. The brute just has to many small issues I didn't want to deal with. Where the KQ has one possible flaw that I can hopefully have some control over it happening or not. Go get the KQ!

For those who think you can avoid a major design flaw by "breaking it in properly" your kidding yourself. That said I would buy the king. I love it. If you really want to avoid a reverse failure just dont put it in reverse, that would work.

You got some steel hangin between you legs man.....either that or a real fat wallet !!! But seriously.....I'm tempted to do the same thing but the reality of the situation dictates that I just wait until the revised version is being produced and released to the public. Now if they wanted to give you a sizeable discount to take that potentially defective machine off their showroom floor that might be another matter......
HOWEVER....do you wanna be stuck in the woods miles from home, near dark with a snowstorm coming and a blown transmission? Can you imagine how BAD you would be kicking youself in the *** for not heeding all the advice you have received via this forum? I tend to think you would feel like a real chump. And of course with that happening on the first day of your 5 day vacation you would be taking a financial hit over the issue and losing additional seat time while a dealer gives you your "free" repair for something that should never have happened in the first place.....hmmmm....you ought march right back to that dealer and get your check back....or have him hold onto it until the revised models show up in his warehouse and guarantee that you get the first one. Its bad enough that some of us are gonna take a chance on the as of yet unproven updated repair....but to take a chance on a proven defect no more compensation than an extended warranty....well....DUH!!!!! And don't forget that if your unit never does blow up and get updated your resale further down the road will be zero because its the earlier defective design.......

NOT TO WORRY !! The Fix is an excellent one! Besides the change to the ECM, Suzuki is replacing the bushing with a caged needle bearing. Personally I think the needle bearing is enough of a fix, without changing the ECM. Either fix would work, Suzuki is doing both. Remember this recall is about pinning the king, wide open, in reverse for over a minute. Who does that ? The new ECM prevents you from doing that, by limiting rpm in reverse,,,after a minute!! The needle bearings take care of the potential seizure. CASE CLOSED.

LOL, I had the great updated ECM installed, and I lost reverse yesterday stuck in the snow. I have 530 miles on it, I was in reverse diff lock over ride for bout a minute and a half. The ECM sicks in my opinion as I couldnt back up at all with out the over ride pushed. Oh well its off to the dealer tomorrow.

Neversunk brings up the reason that I'm going to wait for a model that is confirmed with the new bearing.
We're taking a long-planned ATV vacation to northern Wisconsin this June - over 2,000 miles there and back. My original plan was to have a new KQ for this trip. Not now. While I do have confidence in Suzuki to follow through and fix the KQ, There is no way I'm going to risk my only two week vacation this year so I can sit around and watch everyone else ride. I'd much rather wait until the '06 models come out - I'd rather get a KQ with the real fix and a six month warrantee than ride a ticking time bomb that is covered for five years.

All this talk of the new needle bearing being the save all, how can we be so sure? How many machines are actually out there right now with the new bearing? Bet you could count them on one hand. After all, the new ECM was to prevent further failures and we all know how well that worked out. It didn't do a thing. What's to say this new bearing will fix anything either?

It sounds like you guys are way proud of your KQ,s. The only question I have for ya all is this. With the new ecm you now all have.( with less power in reverse than a Eiger). don't you think you should only have to pay as much for KQ as what an Eiger would cost? Don't mean to make you all feel bad but I like my Brute just fine. P.S. anytime you would like to run'am lets do it.
