I just replaced the brakes less then a year ago on my 02 vinson and I need to do the rear brakes again. I had the dealer do them the last time however I would like to try it myself this time, I was looking at it the other night however I couldn't figure out how to get pads off, can anybody share their knowledge with me on how to perform this task?

 

From what I remember, there are 2 allen head bolts holding the caliper on. I've replaced my rears and fronts once. It is probably about time to replace the rears again. Use a large screwdriver to pry the caliper in all the way so the new brake pads will go on. When your brake fluid gets low, that is a good indication that the pads are getting low too.

 

So I just loosen those allen head bolts and the pads come loose from there?Thanks!

 

First put a large screwdriver between the pad and rotor and pry the pad all the way against the caliper. Then take the allen head screws out.

Be carefull with using a screwdriver. I tore the seal on a caliper once doing that. In my opinion using a c-clamp or some sort of pliars is safer but if your carefull a screwdriver will work. I also take the break fluid resevoir cap loose to allow the fluid to raise without building pressure.

 

dont take the cap off, all it can do is cause air to get back in the lines, its a sealed system, keep it that way. i do this on every bike and car, and it always goes smooth as silk.
