Default Stock Z400--Help!!

Alright, I just bought my first sport quad. A z400. Is there any thing that I can do to make it faster using the stock stuff? Like opening the air box or removing the spark arrestor. Let me know.

without buying anything then the answers no. if you want more speed then you need to change the exhaust and have the bike rejetted and different air filter with no lid on the air box . and before I forget congrats on the new ride

you could buy a main jet for about $5 and take off your airbox lid and rejet it, you would have more throttle response then. i recommend buying a slip on pipe and a pro flo kit.

Thanks for the info. Can I order a jet from the dealer? What sized should I ask for? Also K&N filter? or does that come with the pro flo kit.?

I would get a jet from a local motorcycle shop. The dealers usually want too much. You need to find out what jet others in Florida are running, seeing as Florida is pretty much the same sea level all over. Your best bet for a pipe would be a complete exhaust. You would be amazed what a header pipe will do for throttle response. Cahnging your front and rear sprocket will help also. Be sure to add a case saver for about $20 to $30. The more power you add, the greater chance you have of breaking a chain and breaking the case.

My first mod was to remove the airbox lid and install a bigger main jet. It was a nice gain over stock. I used a 150 mikuni main (about 600ft elevation).

If you get an airfilter setup, go with nossmachine, its cheaper than the pro design.
