I have an 05 Z400 with White bros e series slipon 12discs and the air box lid off. I started with a 165 dynojet and 3.5 out on the fuel screw it blew really dark smoke. I searched this forum to find out that I was running rich. I also pulled the plug and verified it was running rich. I have tried every jet between 165 and 146 in the dynojet kit. I have also adjusted the fuel screw from all the way in to 3.5 turn out. I have tried to adjust the idle screw too. My pilot jet is stock 22.5 and the needle is set to the third clip. The elevation is 620 feet and the temp is 70. Why do I still have a bad idle? Black smoke? When I give it gas it seems to rev fine until wot then it seems to bog a bit. How do you know when you hit the rev limiter?

 

How did you pull the carb? Did you or how do you get to the Jet's??

When was it blowing smoke....idle, midrange or wide open?
Did everything get put back together ok?Didnt pinch the rubber gasket at the top cover of the carb?no intake leaks?
The rev limiter wont let it bog...itll sputter. Bogging would say the main is still rich.

 

You have to loosen the intake tube and the air box tube. You should have enough room to work on it then.

 

You can barely see the smoke at idle but when you give it gas a cloud will blow out for a brief second.
