89 LT250r wont start, Spark???
#11
I'm begining to thing a few gallons of gas and a match is the only thing thats going to make this thing go.
I got the new stator on, its sparking, not running but sparking. I dont get it, there looks to be plenty of spark, its gettting gas, it has to be getting air, and I cant get so much as a fart out of it. Any bright ideas out there?

I'm not sure what your machine components are built like but, check to make sure carb has no air leaks around the boot and or seals on the carb itself, check for cracks. Also make sure your pulg wires for some reason when fully assembled are not jumping spark to a different ground area. You can expand on that theory some too. Just a thought, Good Luck.

Is the timing adjustable on the lt? If you're getting spark and fuel, only 1 thing it could be....timing imho.
Are you sure you're getting enough fuel though? The 250r is a 2stroke yes? If it is try using WD40 for starting fluid or dumping a capful of mix into the carb to see.
You could use soapy water in a spray bottle to check for airleaks from the inside out, but not real sure how you'd test other way around.

I did try alittle starting fluid and I still didnt get anything out of it, the stator is adjustable you can turn it some, I dont have the manual so I just lined the line up on the case and the stator. I dont get it the last time it ran it just seemed like it fouled the plug, ok found out the spark wasnt so good. It now has a good start and a fresh topend, plenty of compression yet it still wont start. I'll have to play with it I guess.

If you have, air, fuel, compression, and spark it should run. Dump a cap full of gas into the spark plug hole and give it few kicks it should fire. I had to do t his on mine before I got the carb set right. The other problem I had with mine was a bad crank seal.
I might have missed it, but did you take the carb off and clean it REAL good? How old is the gas you are trying to start it with? Have you tried adjusting the air screw? How much compression do you actually have?
