Default just bought 2005 z400

hey. i just bought a z400, going to pick it up tomorrow after work. super new to quads...so please go easy on the very new guy. whats the top speed? how many miles am i going to get off a tank of gas? so whats the deal...should i only use premium gas or what, or does that make a difference? so how important are skid plates? because i can make them at work....(sheet metal fabricator). probably going to have more questions in the future but thank you all in advance for your help. and i hope this quad will be as much fun as it has been in my dreams. Top speed - don't know. Faster than a 400ex. Probably around 65 bone stock.

Miles per tank. Around 50 depending on where and how you ride. Hard riding on fast trails I logged 46 miles and 1.9 gallons of gas.

Skid plates - I have stock in the rear and a .190 aluminum belly skid. Required for rocks.

Enjoy, I love mine!

You might want to check out another forum. The name is forbidden on here so I'll write it backwards. moc.lartneC004Z I know there are a few members form Alaska on there.

I would definately say get a belly skid plate and also replace the stock plastic swing arm guard with a good metal one. I got a PRM .250 and that thing can take a beating.

top speed is around 65/70. I get close to 40 miles to a tank as long as I stay off the throttle
no you dont need to run premium gas in it, but it does make a difference. skid plates are very important
nothing worse than having something go into your motor when you could of protected it with skid plates
nerf bars are great to have too if you have problems putting your feet down while turning
have fun with your new quad and ride smart and safe. and remember to always wear a helmet

took it out today......holy crapola this thing has power. of course i am just used to the utility machines. i am really suprised how sharp it rides, cuts around the corners....barely any floating. throttle response is fabulous. i know i am going to have tons of fun. scared me good, first time i shifted into second accidentaly popped the front end up. thank you all for your messages. and i wouldnt dream of riding without a helmet. I know i am not bullet proof eg: one broken leg.

ok.. I got one and its great. Top speed stock is 70-72. 2.6 Gal gas tank. Use regular gas.. u only need premium and stuff for 2 strokes.. good thing ur not involved in that now. I got full skids and lemme put it this way; i ride mainly woods and trails and without those I would ahve no a-arms, and my swingarm would be gone. The belly would be all marked up also.. thats the first thing u should get.. rear and belly skids. Also, a 20$ air filter would be good, because stock ones suck. Good luck. Great quad.. and u can show up those Honda boys that like to brag
