03 Eiger problems
#1
My 03 Eiger is having a "clanking" noise coming from the right side of the engine(when sitting on it). This only happens when I am driving around. At idle there is no "clanking" sound. It sound like the drive chain? The engine is fine but, it sounds like the chain is loose. Has this happen to anyone and does anyone have a fix for it. Any ideas would be great appreciated. I forgot to mention that this eiger is a manual. I had it serviced last August 2004. I also rev the engine in neutral and no sound exists. I only have 470 miles on it.

My Eiger was doing the same thing....
It was valve rattle...YOu can try to have the valves adjusted...
I could be wrong, but I thought the Eigers had a driveshaft not a chain...
YOu know the sound a truck makes when your in too high of a gear goin up a hill..?? MY bike sounded like that all the time...
I had the valves adjusted and it made a huge difference...Maybe like 95% fixed...then i started running high test gas in it again and it fixed the problem completely...
Just my thoughts on the subject...

When I had my 02 Eiger Auto I used to have a sound on the right side that was the belt pressure plate (for lack of the proper term) engaging when I would accelerate quickly. Started from day one right up until the time I sold her a few months ago with 5000kms on it and many dealer servicings. Still going strong.

I am 100% sure it is the cam chain. The engine runs great when not in gear. The noise from the chain only happens around 1st gear and second gear (not under a load). After that it goes away. Does anyone know how to adjust the chain? I called the dealer on Saturday and they do not recommend adjusting it myself. They also said it is self adjusting. I opend the cap to reveal two bolts that I guess help adjust the chain. I did not adjust it though. I went riding on Saturday night and it seemed to make a little less noise the more I rode it but, it still made the chain clanking sound. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.
