Default Huge Water problems

I was out riding today and there was a puddle probably 5-10 yards long i went thru it a few times without a problem then i tryed to hit it in 2nd gear with some speed well i made it through but the bike died. It wouldn't restart right away so we waited about 10 min and tryed to start about 10 kicks later it fired we started going back home and everynow and then it would backfire kinda light. Well then it started backfiring bad and shut off we couldn't get it to restart well needless to say about a half mile push and ride home from a friend its in the garage. i got it start but occasionally it will back fire and its ideling extremely high what should i check? What could be wrong? Help me plz.!!!

it helps to know what bike you have
but it sounds like your going to have to pull the carb and clean it
and install a new spark plug. (happened to me once)
