Default First ATV - lt250s

Hi everyone. Well like it says I FINALLY got my first ATV. Its a 1989 Suzuki lt250s in really nice shape. I was wondering if you all could help me out with some info on this quad. From what I have read so far this seems like a pretty good ATV? Anything you can tell me specifically about it like performance wise or anything else? Upgrades, specs, parts avalibility, etc. would bu MUCH appreciated, as I said its my first one.

Now for the one thing I've had trouble with on it. It seems to run excellently the only trouble I have with it is starting it. Sometimes it will start 1st or 2nd kick but if it doesnt start within that then it gets REALLY hard to start to the point where most of the time the only way it starts is if I drain the gas from the carb and pull the plug then let it sit fot at least 5 min. It seems to do it weather its hot or cold though after its been ran and sitting for like 1 hour seems worse then when its sat all night

So any ideas? Common problems on these?

Well thanks in advance for all your help,
Justin

Welcome to the fourms. When your starting it do you use the throttle or choke? It seems that your flooding the engine from doing that as it starts 1st or 2nd kick sometimes. Either that or it is jetted wrong. As for the quad I don't know much about it but I have heard from some people I know who have them that they are pretty realible.

Good place for parts is Denniskirk.com

congrats on your bike I got a 1989 LT250S last year yeah it does sounds like you are flooding it out you should maybe clean the carb really good and use the choke to start it. I personally never had trouble starting mine not even in the cold allwell I hope you get yours going good

the 230 was stock I believe and so is my 250 yeah it has alot more take off then the 230 I like my 250 better i am more comfortable when I am going fast and it feels alot faster then my 230 but they are both great machines, only thing better about the 230 is that you can find parts for them everywhere like I can't find rear fenders for my bike because it is rare but I like the solid power of the engine never let me down.
