Eiger Top Speed
#1
Hi all, this is my first post so bear with me!
I am looking into replacing my 1988 moto4 (only 1600 miles!), and I'm not sure what I want to get. I like the new eigers, especially the price. I was curious about the stock top speed, as well as the top speed of the machines some of you guys have that are jetted and piped and whatnot.
Thanks in advance,
swamp

I can actually get mine to around the 55-58 mph range. Also since you're looking at an Eiger, I love mine, look around on here and everyone else will agree that it is the best machine for the price that is out there.

This summer I was riding in the Iron River trails area in Wisconsin. For those who have been there, there are some long straight trails south of state road #2. About 2 to 3 miles of hard pack, straight, level and wide trail - just perfect for seeing what your quad will do. I understand from talking to the locals that in winter the smowmobiles get really crazy there.
Stock Eiger 5-speed, 200 pound rider, 20 pounds of gear on back rack, 4.5 to 5 psi all around, temps in the 70's with mid to high humidity, no wind. All stock, no mods, including stock tires. Flat out gave me 56 MPH as recorded on the Suzuki speedometer. It would get to 50-52 pretty quick and then slowly reel in to it's top speed.
Disclaimer: My experience with Suzuki's has shown that a Zuki speedometer is a tad 'optimistic'. I suspect that most Suzuki speedometers read a couple of MPH high at the top end.
The more-information-than-you-need-to-know-and-probable-cause-of-massive-amounts-of-flaming-fact: On this same trip I was riding in company with two King-Quads. Not the new 700's, but the older 282CC versions. A 1995 and a 2002 IIRC. I paced both of these at 53-54 MPH. Granted, it took them a long time to get there and put a slight rise in their way and they'd start slowing down, but they could do it.
I also believe that the Eiger is the best bang-for-the-buck out there.

Thanks for the replies.
I was also wondering if there were any power/speed differences between the automatic and the 5 speed models. I heard somewhere that the 5 speed is faster?
Thanks,
swamp

I have a Manual and my friend has the Automatic, if he just pins it and i pin it, I absolutely kill him, no contest, the Manual speeds up a lot faster, in my experience any way. My manual also goes faster than his in top speed, same tires (Mudlites), same year only a different color.
