Dealers Dealers Dealers.......

OK...Shame on me but I just do not have the time to get to work on everything that needs to be worked on. I have had this situation on my Eiger since I picked it up new. I always have to have the choke on to make it run right. In an earlier post some months back I got some great feedback about adding an inline fuel filter since alot of owners had junk in their tanks. So I did that. But this has really been a problem since I picked it up after they did the "Dealer Prep" So out of frustration this weekend, after fighting this poor performance, I decided to load it up in my truck and have the dealer take a look.
So I get to the dealer and explain the problem in great detail and this young kid starts off with "Well $75 for us to diagnose the Eiger" I said..."It needs the choke on all the time so I would think we have narrowed it down to a fuel management issue". Then he proceeded to open his mouth and remove all doubt and started saying well it could be the drive system and blah blah blah...Now I am a very competent mechanic so when someone tries to BS me I get a little aggravated. This kid then proceeded that it may need a full service.... At that point I had finally had enough..I said look "I did not bring the quad in to have some $600 dollar around the horn tune up service. The quad has 35 total miles on it. I use it for working around the property and plowing snow. I changed all the fluids at 10 miles as recommended. I have the service manual. This fuel management problem is either a bad dealer prep issue from the get go or something is lodge in the needle seat area plugged and causing the issue. I would like you to take the carb off, take a look, replace the 125 jet and add the 128 jet I supplied, put it back on and adjust it so I do not have to run the choke full and have it die when I let off the thumb accelerator. Can you do that?" GOOD GRIEF.....Are times that tight where you have some snot snosed kid trying to run you down the path.....I feel for the people who really do not know anything and get this hose job. Sorry to rant here but junk like this really bothers me..Car dealers are even worse. I understand that they have a business and this is part of remaining profitable but at what point are they ripping people off. So anyway, I am kicking myself in the a$$ right now as I should have just made the time and did it myself. Now I got more time and grief in it...
So here is where I see this going
$75 to diagnose
$100 to R&R the carb
$50 to tune to performance
Total $225
Lets see how close I am. They said they would have it done by the end of the week.

What ever happened to Customer Service? With a dealer like that I would go some where else.
Before I put the jet kit in mine I had to leave the choke on forever before it would run right (but it would run right eventually). I found a hose that was kinked pinched ect. It was a pretty big hose so I rerouted it. Not sure if that changed it or the new jets.

Suzuki Doug....Ya think so. I would have figured with the $75 to just "Look" at it would not be credited towards the service....I figured they would want an hour shop time to R&R then another 1/2 to tune it up.
I want folks to know, I am not a cheapskate...I do not mind paying for what needs to be done but to be rifled that it could be a bunch of other things is wrong.

Well thought I would update everyone. So I got the quad back today. the claim was bad gas. Now I use the same gas and have it sit in lawn mowers, my boat and other stuff for extended period of times with no problems. Needless to say they cleaned out carb(as stated) and it seems to run well now. We went down from the 122 to 120 jet since I ride this at 6000 feet. We will see if this helps. I drained the old gas this evening and added new fuel and some product called "Sta-Bill" it is a fuel treatment to stabilize the fuel. Has anybody used it?
The total price for the work was $128 bucks. Suzuki Doug was right......

We've been using it for a few years now in the North East. Mostly for winter storage or if you do not use up your gas every 10-12 weeks. Seems to do its job..my 4 wheeler & dirtbike both start up & run fine after a winter..
