Default Dead battery on the King Quad...How?

My K.Q. has been sitting for the last couple of weeks as I have been putting the Vinson to work. Last week I jumped on the King....and...grrrrrrrrrr...it wouldnt turn over. Granted it has been getting cold here (35-29 degrees) but..not THAT cold. Any ideas out there? Thanks

More info would be helpful.
Did the dash lights come on?
Does the headlight come on?
With the headlights on, do they go out completely when you hit the start button?
Did you finally get it started, and if so, then how?

Sorry for all of the questions, but the answers will help determine the solution.

Yes, the dash lights, headlight and digital panel all come on. i t looks like a "low" battery. however, i stuck the charger on it, and nothing changes.

..try removing the battary connections ...clean them with some sandpaper..clean the battary posts, and refasten..then look at the battary cable to the starter..check it for tightness..better yet..remove it and clean the positive and neg ground to the starter..even though the lamps/lights work..I've seen cars that do not have enough contact to the posts because of corrosion, but the lights work, clean the above and it starts....ok if that doesnt work..m-a-y-b-e the starter locked up...or the switch on the handle bar may have corrosion between the contacts inside the switch..or the relay to the starter......I dont recommend it..( have to say that ) have you tryed jump starting it with another battary??....... ( TrailGuide standing next to me said hello..) Good luck !!

There was one critical question that you didn't answer:"With the headlights on, do they go out completely when you hit the start button?"

If the lights go out (or very dim) when starter is engaged, this would indicate a low voltage situation. It is possible, but seldom, to have a battery that has a problem internally that won't turn over an engine, even with a charger on it. (But will still light the lights.)

Going by the odds, I would say that you are not getting a signal to the starter solonoid to energize it, or a bad solonoid.

I have two words for you... Battery Tender. Remember the KQ battery is one of the largest installed in a quad...I believe 18AH. King Quads are sensitive to battery charge and the BT is the very best I have found for doing just that. Also, no lights on when you are trying to start and don't forget to refrain from pushing the start button until the fuel pump has completed it's pressurization cycle.

Sealed batteries are great except for holding a full charge well. Heck, a new KQ battery will sit on a battery tender for 6-10 hours before the battery tender goes to green from red. And that's a NEW battery!
