The 87 was considered the fastest year. The 87 has a jug specific to the year which includes the reed cage, intake manifold, piston, port mapping and cylinder head. However, physically the newer jugs will bolt on and vise versa. No gaskets will swap between the 85/86 and 87 newer engines.
Very few things will swap between the 85/86 motors but I can't be for sure what other than the flywheel.

only parts from a 87-92 engine that will fit on a 85-86 are the flywheel, stator, wristpin bearing, a couple of pieces from the shift linkage and some misc. bolts and nuts. other than that everything else is different in the engine.
