ok now you guys are starting to scare me. I am still running the stock filter and I think I have about 30 hours on it. I guess I will be ordering a new filter first chance I get. which one do you guys like better the Uni or the Twin Air? The first sign of damage is blue smoke or burning oil? Does it smoke all the time or only when cold. This is unreal a $7000 machine and you poor guys already have to have the enigne rebuilt. Keep all the info comming.

I just put a uni on mine, there was very little, but some dust down in the throttle body. It looked too like it was sealed on both the top and the bottom, the dirt must go through the foam peice on the bottom, or the paper filter is giving out somehow... pin holes or somthing at the top of the paper media? It's too bad to see any dirt in there at all! Hope the uni fixes the problem!

The consensus seems to be that everyone has noticed some amount of dust or dirt inside the intake due to the P.O.S. filter that Suzuki installed.

I cannot believe this! Does anyone know how to initiate a recall with Suzuki? I am positive they have had numerous complaints.
I feel we should collectively submit reports to the Better Business Bureau to get things started.

If anyone knows how to contact Suzuki, please forward this thread to them.
Maybe that will open their eyes.

I know one thing for sure........when my engine fails because of this, they are paying for it!!!

They have people reading these, and they know whats going on. The way they are dragging their feet on a fix is a joke.

Plus this is not the only thread in here discussing this problem. There are a few other threads as well. Luckily I just bought mine and read alot of the threads on this and other sites about the KQ before purchasing. All of them pretty much say the stock filter is crap. I fortunately was aware of the filter issue and ordered one the day I picked up my quad.

OK.....ive had it.
If they are reading this, I am giving them MORE to read.
From the Better Business Bureau.

I've created a new thread for BBB submissions.
This problem needs to be addressed and FIXED by Suzuki.

I just got my 06 Camo yesterday after numerous call to the dealer, 2 calls to Customer Service, 1 call to Rome,Ga.(no help), 2 calls to the regional distribution center in Illinois, and 1 call to the trucking company. I don't feel any lag in the engine, but I opened the air filter and it is still paper and no grease on the bottom seal. I greased the seal on the factory filter, and placed an order for a UNI. Other than that I love the machine. I put a 60 in. State plow and warn 2.5 winch setup on it and I have been having a ball!

It isn't like we haven't known this is the way they deal with critical design flaws. It has happened before. I've got a friend who got stung with the whole reverse mess and now his KQ is smoking worse every day. He put on an aftermarket uni but by the time he figured out what was happening the damage was done. There was an ungodly amount of filth down the intake by that time. The stealer (who screwed him on the whole reverse issue) is playing dumb about the whole developing dirt ingestion and severe motor damage debacle. If history is any guide Suzuki will deny there is a problem for as long as possible then issue a half assed fix and wind up screwing a good portion of KQ owners in the process. By the way he talked last weekend I think when this last problem is fixed the KQ is getting the heave ho and he is going to look for something else. If he does I might buy it but I know what I'm getting into.

Megan, suggest you ride point for the next couple of weeks. Even a small amount of dirt /dust in the head will begin the process of destruction. I have two KQ's and since the dealer installed the uni's at Suzuki expense I've had no problem. And we ride in lots of dust.

Hang in there. Other than this problem I consider the KQ still the best machine on the market for the $$.
