King Quad smoking due to BAD FILTER! Pictures

I have been told that Suzuki USA has admitted a problem but Suzuki japan hasnt. What kills me is that they are selling new machines with a KNOWN problem to an unsuspecting public. My dealer wont sell a KQ without informing the buyer and/or installing a uni with it. Its good to see a dealership that is, literally, years ahead of the equipment they sell. I will get mine back this weekend. THe dealer is 250 miles away and I havent had time to go and get it until now. The engine was rebuilt and a uni installed. I firmly belive my dealer made a big difference with this matter. They told ME about the smoking problem. They were also relentless in getting Suzuki to authorize a warrenty engine rebuild. While my machine was in it also got new tie rods and a cold weather ECM. Wow, one stop shopping at its finest.
I asked a local dealer (not my dealer) about the smoking issue and they played dumb to it. I doubt they would have been as helpful as the out of town dealer that I used.
If the problem was just the bottom seal, why dont they grease the new ones and send a tube of grease and a handful of washers out to us and resolve this issue once and for all?

I also have a 700 king quad that ive had for 4 months with 220 miles on it, its not smoking yet, but the butterfly is full of dirt. sure would be nice if someone would do something about this problem. we paid way to much for these machines for something as simple as an air filter problem. come on suzuki, your better than this...

Megan, suggest you ride point for the next couple of weeks. Even a small amount of dirt /dust in the head will begin the process of destruction. I have two KQ's and since the dealer installed the uni's at Suzuki expense I've had no problem. And we ride in lots of dust.Hang in there. Other than this problem I consider the KQ still the best machine on the market for the $$.

Captain Quint,
You should have your friend print out all of the threads on here that discuss the filter issues. There are a few threads on this site and there are threads in other ATV forums as well adressing the problem. Hopefully w/ all of that proof his dealer will help him out.

To Captain .....and everyone else.
Some owners have already called and expressed the disgust with the filter design, its time for the rest of us to follow suit.
I am contacting the Rome Georgia plant next week, i suggest you all do the same.
Contact information:

Hopefully everyone reading this thread calls them! I would love to see 1,000+ complaints pile up on them
Sooner or later they will listen and properly fix this nightmare.

Ridefreak,
You SHOULDN'T have to do anything to a $7,000 machine to ensure it operates properly.
However, until Suzuki fixes this problem, get a UNI filter to be safe. You will have no worries with that filter according to everyone that has thrown one on. Aside from the filter problem, the bike is amazing!
What you need to do is address the issue with your dealer and have them install the correct filter.....even if Suzuki has to buy it!!

Again, that is the way that Suzuki does business. They knowingly sold brand new King Quads with defective reverse gears. They sold the ones on the showroom floors and in the distribution pipeline that they admitted had defective reverse gears in them. They knowingly sold them and didn't inform those that bought them that they were defective. We really shouldn't really be surprised at their foot dragging and denials in this instance. This is just the way that Suzuki does business. They built a pretty decent ATV in the case of the KQ but they do not back their product and they treat the owners of their products like crap. Once they get your money they pretty much tell you to go eff yourself
