also is there anything different on the eiger when setting the intake valve clearances other then finding TDC and using a feeler gauge ?

I have the service manual at home and I'll look up the specs tonite... I wanna say .008-.010 for intake and .010-.012 for exhaust... but I'll double check. I'll take some pics of the two main pages outta the manual and upload them. Just in case you need 'em.

Right, TDC and feeler gauge... I left the recoil starter on and just pulled the cord till I saw the timing line... if you go that route, leave the spark plug in or TDC rolls by too easily.

Sorry i didn't get them uploaded yesterday.

I was way off on the Intake tolerance...

INTAKE: 0.05-0.10mm (0.002-0.004 in)
EXHAUST: 0.22-0.27mm (0.009-0.011 in)

Here's the pics:

You won't have to remove the leftside footwell plastics if you use the recoil starter to turn the engine. I took pics while I did my wife's Eiger, see the "service100miles" pics at:

I had to take te bike apart this week-end to clean the carb... and I gave the valve adjusting a try... (before reading this post) I just aligned the mark on the generator so that it aligned with the centre of the hole so I don't think I had the mark ligned up, it knocks less but still knocks. I'll take it apart next week-end and using the step by step information you provided it should be a breeze.
thanks!!!

If you pull the intake-side valve cover off and watch the valves while turning the engine, you'll see the valves open and close. Soon after they close, stop when you see the line match up with the arrow on the crankcase.

@lobo13, the service manual part number is: 99500-43043-01E

I bought it at 187rideeasy.com for I think around $42 shipped.
