85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.
any auto oil degrades the clutches. Valvoline Wet Clutch oil is the only oil i use these days. after destroying a $130 Barrnett clutch kit i wont take the risk with auto oil any more. i used Mobil 1 high mileage oil in that case which costed me $130 to fix the clutch that it ruined.
High mileage oil is sure to have friction modifiers in it which is what kills clutches. Rotella for diesels Is highly recommended by many atv and motorcycle owners also because it has none of the clutch killing additives
And of course an atv shop owner is going to telll you, use auto oil, they want you to order a new clutch or have your atv serviced at the shop within a year or a little past a year, thats Business 101. to businesses its all about the almighty dollar and how fast they can make it. I have even talked to several aftermarket clutch makers like ebc , barnett, and Vesrah, they all have recommended a wet clutch oil like Valvoline yamalube and others. but cost wise Valvoline 10w40 wet clutch is cheaper and just as effective as high dollar atv oils at an atv shop.
One of my 230's has a dg exhaust and the airbox cover removed and I'm three sizes up on the main jet. It is so much faster then my stock one you can't even tell its the same quad. Do you happen to know anyone who could sell me an LT230 CDI. Mine is going bad and causing misfires at high rpm.
thank you

Why r u parting out man? Id be interested in a complete engine.

and its a bit more expensive. oi, did i know i would stir up some uproar. and does Rotella have a factory stated guarantee not to screw up an atv engine or the clutch? not that i have seen. but yes i have used that same oil for other customers engines and i still end up replacing the clutches. At least 10 or so engines i have built have needed clutch replacement due to being a new rider, but i would still recommend staying clear from auto oil. i was trained by Suzuki and have spent my vacation away from riding and the forums researching factory recommended specs for oil and even grease for the bearings.
