So I went to my friends shop found the original cdi hooked it up and same results. So that makes me believe either the pulsar coil is bad or the wires are crossed.. Such a headache!! I think you were right about the cdi tho Randy.

I suppose a cdi can go bad, I just never seen one. Seen a lot of other things though.

If I have the wire coming off of the cdi for the kill switch unplugged would that keep it from sparking?

Grounding that wire kills the engine, so no

OK so I tested the ohms on the pickup coil and the power coil and both are good so I'm guessing its the magneto.

I tested my ohms and everything checked out. I replaced the coil anyway and that took care of my hot-starting issue. I don't have tons of faith in the ohms test. I suppose it could reveal a short or open circuit though.

The power coil is the magneto. Part of it anyway. The stator is the magnets around it. As long as they are magnetic, it should work... I would think. I'm not really an expert here lol.

Should I have all the wires hooked up on the cdi to test spark or just the power wires from the coil in the magneto?

Mine is 86. I don't know. I would hook them all up. Did you try reversing the wires on the power coil yet? Do you have a wire diagram?
