lol that's funny!

Some plastic turns yellow with UV light and I'm sure they've been sitting a while.

I just paint mine, though I could use a set of back ones since I'm missing a big hunk.

Yeah, I figure they've all been sitting for a while. You'd think Maier would have some way for their white plastics not to turn yellow while sitting on the shelf for a long time.

I'm too picky to paint the plastics. I'd be angry as soon as they started chipping. Although, it would make more sense since I'll be more or less beating the crap out of $400 plastics on a 27 year old bike

It chips, but its no big deal. Just spray some more on after you wash the mud off. A little brake cleaner on a paper towel takes the overspray off the headlight n stuff. It really is simple and easy.

This one is cobalt blue with metal flake. Its yellow plastic. Was painted 6 yrs ago, but you'd never know by looking today. I just touch up the flake-offs.

I got my 250s engine in the mail today. Looks a lot worse in person then it did in the pictures. I'm going to at least try to clean it up a little before installing. Hopefully, I'll get it in and tested this week.

The stud for the upper mount is broken off in the valve cover. Can I just swap the valve cover from my 230s engine over?

I think Randy said you don't need that top mount because the 250s engine is a little taller.Well I think he said that?

Idk if you need the top mount or not because the 4x4 quads don't have it, but I've said over n over that you can't mix n match valve covers with heads. The heads n covers are a set n the cam bearing is machined into them as a set. I would only mix them as a last resort.

Surely you can get a broken stud out of a hole that never had threads and is much bigger than the stud.

Another thing you'll notice is the 230 top mount will be slightly off with the 250 engine... since its taller. I think I used a rat-tail file once to oval the holes so it would fit, but then ended up with a 250 mount later on. I don't think it matters either way.

Keep us posted!

I haven't tried to get it out yet. I just can't imagine how it got stuck in there in the first place, since it's supposed to just slide through. It's in there tight enough that the bolt head is broken off. I'll try to get it out tomorrow night, and if not, I'll just grind the ends off of it, and don't use that mount.

And thanks for the reminder about the bearing races being built into the valve cover. I had forgotten about that.

I have a set of 250s mounts, that I purchased before I realized that I could just slot the hole in the 230s mounts to make them work. Oh well.

Just saw it off flush and punch it though. It will come out. I would use the top mount if possible. Maybe its required because of all the jumping and bouncing around the sports endure.

Yes I think it should be able to punch it threw. You could also drill it out if all else fails.lay it on its side on your bench, try to set a deep well socket under the broken stud n drive it out with a good punch. Keep us posted.
