Thanks for the lube/grease info. I have access to pretty much any type lubricant out there at my job. I'll lube them up with oil first then grease between the heim and the seal [not packed].

Does anyone know what dB the stock muffler output is on the 85 Sport?

I doubt anyone would know that lol. I'm sure it's lower than some legal number set by someone, somewhere. Why would you want to know?

Default Noise ordnance

JustRandy, I just found out about a noise ordnance and didn't want to get into trouble. That being said is there a "quiet" aftermarket muffler out there. My stock one is toast.

Default Lots of legal jargon

It has a lot of legal jargon in there about noise and privacy but it basically says that any "off road" vehicle must not produce more than 93dB.

93 at how far away? If it's at 1 meter, that's not very loud. I don't think any aftermarket exhaust would conform to that, though the stock one may. You might have one of the enforcement officers come test your rig to get an idea of how loud, loud is.

Pretty much, no. If you can track down a good condition stock muffler its going to be the quietest one you can get... but good luck with that. Otherwise you could build something like JustRandy did, I dunno how loud it is at speed, but he claims its very quiet at idle.

Hows it going guys? Havent posted on here in a while since I sold my 230s. I wish I would have kept it, but it was having issues and I really didn't have space for one atv, let alone two. The 660 Griz is still running good and going through anything I point it at. Glad to see guys are keeping this thread alive. Did you ever get yours finished, Tom? would love to see some pics.

keep it up guys!

Hey zuk! Stick around! Apparently this thread is only 'loosely' related to 230s

Yeah, the one I made is whisper quiet at idle. I really ain't kiddin. Lurking through the woods, the loudest thing is the leaves crunching. It get's louder as it's revved though. I have no idea why it's so quiet. I tried a similar muffler for my king and it wasn't quiet at all. Plus it blew the stuffing out after a day of riding, which left it tinny sounding.

Default 10 feet

The measured distance is 10 feet. What exhaust did you build, I may do just that.
