Default 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

I just got a 86 230s quad sport. Any one have any advise for me about it. This is the first 4wheeler that i have owned. Right now i have about 250 bucks in it total including the price of the 4wheeler. Not to bad. I paid for it all with my bonus checkes that i get at work, so its like work gave me a 4wheeler and some parts for free. Any help will be welcome.

The stage one will work great with a stock carb. I would consider rejetting though. Maybe up two sizes on the main.
If you havent already, a K&N would work great with the cam.
You get good performance with the stage one through the entire band, but it will be noticed more on the bottom end.

thanks for the advice. I finally got it running today. It started on the first kick. It ran great for about 4 minutes, i took it for a ride around the yard for a ride and it died on me. We thought it died cause it was cold. I went to kick it again and i could not get it to kick over. I weigh 250 pounds and my big butt was not making it move. We took it back to the shop and the motor was locked up. We took the motor apart and found that the oil pump had locked up in it. Cooked the whole motor. I was not happy. I just spent about 150 bucks to have it run for only a few minutes. So i dont know what i am going to do with it right now. I was thinking about parting it out and selling the parts off of it. But i will look around and see if i can find a good motor for it, if i can afford one.

no. no valves springs will be needed with the stage one. as far as the jetting. I would get one of the stock rejetting kits and then buy a larger main jet to match.
good luck.

Hi guys! I'm new here just picked up an '85 230 QS last weekend. I love it! Right now it needs some TLC but it run great. At the moment it has a supertrapp pipe, Dick Cepek spider tac rear tires and a set nerf bars. Needs cleaned up and some new plastic previous owner cut a HUGE hole in the front fender for a light. Nice to see there's so many people into these quads. Hope to have some pics up soon.

Good to hear from you man. An 85 huh? Thats a good year. Of course.......there all good to me.
Sounds like youve gotten off to a good start. Supertrapp is a good pipe. What size are those Cepek's? Its been my experience that people like putting biiiiig back tires on for the mud. Not a very good choice ( in my opinion of course). The quad came factory wtih a 21" rear tire. 22 " is as big as I would go. Even for the muck.
The factory axle splines dont last as is. A bigger lever makes for more torque on an already weak link. Not to mention the extra wear on the carrier bearings, swing arm bearings and chain. See "chain came off syndrome" in an eariler post.
These folks on here know there 230 stuff. Your shure to get some helping advice from several directions if you need it.
Good luck.

Thanks BigMc, I'm not sure of the size I keep it at my cousin's house. (That's who I bought it from.) It looks like the front tires are original and the rears are smaller I know that. I'll have to check tomorrow. It's my first quad in a long time. I had a Yamaha 200 Moto-4 when I was a kid. Now I can't wait to get riding again!!

I had a 200 moto 4 myself. Blue with white and yellow. That thing rode like a rubber-tired-wagon. No suspension at all. The battery had died and the only thing i could afford was a lawn mower battery from an auto parts store. It was to big to fit the factory location so i put it in a plastic box and strapped it to the front rack

But that was yeeeeears ago. I horse traded that thing off for a 87 250R, rolling frame, everything but the motor. But thats another story in itself.

Oh, by the way. This is for all you on here. I happened upon a post last night where someone was looking for info on a 28mm carb that was selling on ebay. The seller said he had several. It looked brand new and sold for $30.00 plus s&h. I will see if I can find the info again.
