I figured what swing arm I got with the "free" quad I have been dismantleing. It is a 87 swinger off a 87 230 E, mounted onto a 86 230S. anyways the 230 E's came with a upper chain roller mounted on the top of the swing arm. The 230 S's did not come with this, does anybody know why? I am going to legnthen this swingarm since the bearing tube is in good shape, and planned on keeping and using the roller. Does any body see any reason why it would cause a problem? Also a replacement roller is $45!! on babbits, anybody think of a material I could make one out of?
Also check out the indent on the pivot tube. It shows it but I still don't know what it is for?</end quote></div>
I told ya before I thought it was from an E. The dimple is to clear some kind of drain tube.
Forget the roller. 1) It doesn't guarantee the chain won't come off. 2) Its like riding with the brakes on... All rollers are. Get the warrior chain guide and weld up a bracket like I did. The chain will never come off again and there is nothing rubbing the chain to slow you down.

I was not going to do it as a solution for the chain to not pop off, I do not have the problem now and with a straight tube and good bearings I do not think I will have it after. I was actually going to do both, but have not decided yet. The warrior guide provides drag as well when it slides over it, especially on acelleration when the bottom of the chain hangs with more slack.

The drag from the warrior guide is negligable. I had the back wheels off the ground and spun the tires to see. Anything on the bottom of the chain doesn't drag with any force applied to it (unless in reverse or if the thing touching the chain is spring-loaded). Also, the warrior guide is long and slippery. So if the chain touches it, it just skims across it unlike a roller that goes "bam" "bam" "bam" as each link hits the round surface.
That red, spring-loaded roller I used to have was awful. It was literally like trying to spin the tires while lightly holding the brakes.

The stock one is not spring loaded. The spring action on yours was probably giving you most of the resistance. The stock one seems to have a bearing in it, or if I make one I might use a small bearing? I am not saying the roller is better, I am saying I can't see it giving more resistance the the slide. Plus it is already there so why not use it, Suzuki put it on for a reason, and I hate to dismiss somethign until I know what it's original purpose was.
I do have familiarlarity (SP?) with the slides as I put one on my YFZ skid plate for the chain.

I don't have either and I haven't had a problem yet. Just keep my chain in close adjustment. I still need to get that case saver though. Maybe this weekend I'll order it.

Wind died down to 20mph, but we are curratny at 20 degrees. They say it feels like 5 degrees, but it is still better than what we had earlier in the winter. Supposed to be 50 next week. My sump pump has been working overtime the last couple of days.
