I'm having my sister take some pics of how it bent so hopefully she'll email them to me soon so I can show you.

Its a pretty dumb design since they used spacers between the pegs and nerfs. It just make a giant moment for the bolt to handle.

very ver interesting article on bolt strength there. i have always used grade 5 instead of 8 because i heard of the myth of brittleness.

I don't think I've ever had an 8 break, but had plenty of 5's break. Could be because I use more 5's than 8's too. 5's are cheap and are sold in bulk usually by the pound. The 8's I have to pay by the bolt.

Flywheel bolts are pretty strong and I think those are 8's... Or more. Suspension bolts are 8's too. All the bolts in places where you'd think brittleness would be a problem are where 8's are used. (or 10.9's now days).

Head bolts are torque-to-yield one time use only. No clue what grade they are.

These guys know their bolts: ARP | Technical Information

Yeah, just like your front shocks with the bolt sticking out there with nothing to hold the other side. You said it held though, right?

I'd go bigger diameter on the footpeg bolts. And cut the threads just on the end and not all the way thru. No sense in weakening the metal with threads. And cut fine threads and torque the hell outta them.

I'm not really crazy on drilling out my engine case. I'll have to take a closer look at it when I get home. Maybe an easier route will be finding a way to brace the peg up high as well.

All the pics my sister took sucked. Oh well.
